Douglas C-47 Dakota part of horizontal stabilizer

Original part of the horizontal stabilizer of a Douglas DC-3/C-47 Dakota/Skytrain. This part was once attached to the horizontal of one of the thousands of DC-3s/C-47s built.

The first aircraft in the DC-series was first flown in 1933 and adopted by dozens of airlines around the world. But things changed dramatically when World War II broke out and the DC-3 was chosen by the United States Army Air Force in 1941 as the transport plane of choice. The military designation became C-47 and over 10.000 were built for US operations.

Smooth colour

Since horizontal stabilizers were interchangeable between aircraft we don’t know the history of this specific element. It is a lightweight element that has a very smooth greenish colour, therefore fitting for almost any environment.
